BBQ Square Ribs
Method
Brown the ribs
Heat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the ribs in a single layer in a roasting pan and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, turning them once, until browned on both sides.
Drain
Take the pan out, drain off the fat and put the ribs back in the pan.
Make the sauce
While the ribs brown, put the water, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, salt, pepper, vinegar, brown sugar and chili powder in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
Bake in the sauce
Turn the oven down to 325°F (160°C). Pour the sauce over the ribs and bake uncovered for 1 hour, turning the ribs in the sauce halfway through, until tender and the sauce has thickened.
Serve
Spoon the sauce from the pan over the ribs.
Good to know
- Worcestershire sauce usually contains anchovies. If you're avoiding fish or seafood, look for a fish-free one.
