If you only take one thing from this site, make it this. A digital kitchen scale changed how I cook more than any recipe did.
Why it matters
- The macros are only as good as the measuring. A "cup" of flour or a "scoop" of yogurt can vary a lot depending on how you fill it. Grams don't.
- Recipes turn out the same every time. Especially baking, where a little too much flour is the difference between a soft muffin and a dry one.
- Fewer dishes. Set the bowl on the scale and add everything straight into it. No measuring cups to wash.
- Portioning is easy. Splitting a batch evenly, or making a bigger plate for someone else, takes seconds.
How I use it
- Put the empty bowl on the scale and press tare (or zero), so it reads 0.
- Add the first ingredient until you hit the weight, then press tare again.
- Repeat for each ingredient, right in the same bowl.
What to look for: a basic digital scale that measures in 1 g steps and has a tare button. You don't need anything fancy.
That's why every recipe here lists grams and millilitres first, with cups and spoons beside them for anyone without a scale yet.
